Ananthapadmanabha temple, also called Ananthasayana or Ananteshwara temple located in Karkala, Karnataka, is built in 1567 CE.
The deity of Ananthapadmanabha in a reclined position, resting on the coils of Adisesha, is carved out of a single black stone.
It is said that the temple, constructed as a basadi in 15th century CE, was installed with the deity of Ananthapadmanabha found in a lake in Nellikar (~15 km from Karkala), prior to the visit of Sri Narasimha Bharathi Swamiji of Sringeri.
Interestingly horizontal stone slabs provide the roof for tirthamandapa and around the garbhagriha.
