Warangal Fort – located 150 Km north-east of Hyderabad, Telangana – built between 1199 and 1262 CE during Kakatiya times is a magnificent one, alas in ruins today.
The fort had four ornamental arch gates known as Kakatiya Kala Thoranam, which has been adopted and incorporated into the emblem of Telangana state.
Remnants of the fort with its fabulous motifs, sculptures and stone work can be seen today in the archaeological zone. Some structures on top of Ekshila gutta are intact even today.
This fort is one of the architectural masterpieces of Kakatiyas which at one time was spread over 19 Kms. Though in ruins now, the remains of the fort still present a glimpse of the mesmerizing craftsmanship and breath-taking artistry of those times.
