Pothundi Dam, Kerala is located 34 km south of Palakkad, at the foothills of Nelliyampathy.
Built in 19th century CE, it’s one of the region’s older irrigation dams.
The dam is built across the Padipuzha and Meenichiladipuzha rivers, and provides irrigation and drinking water to nearby panchayats such as Nemmara, Ayalur and Melarcode. It is an earthen dam built using a traditional mixture of jaggery and quick lime.
Pothundi is memorable for its quiet charm.
