Vidurashwatha Temple is located 86 km north of Bengaluru, Karnataka.
The Ashwatha vriksha ( Bodi vriksha / Peepul tree ) here is said to have been planted by Vidura during Mahabharatha times ( ~ 5200 years ago), at the Rishi Maithreya ashram which once stood here on the banks of river Penneru.
Today there are lots of Naga pratishtas (Snake symbols on stone) here.
The freedom memorial erected adjacent to the temple compound is dedicated to those who died in a police firing here on 25th April, 1938. As part of the freedom movement, a small crowd gathered in the ground to hoist the tricolour flag. They we first caned and then fired upon. Many died in the incident similar to that of Jallianwala bagh; giving rise to the name ‘Jallianwala Bagh of the South’ to the place.
Vidurashwatha – an interesting place!

Thank you!
It is really a beautiful tourist spot. It looks like the number of Naga Pratishtha made is unending. The Veer Bhavan is well maintained and very informative. The garden around it is also well maintained. Need slightly improvements of Wash rooms
