Thirunageswaram Naganathar Temple (also known as Rahu temple) is located 6 km east of Kumbakonam, Tamil Nadu.
The temple is ancient, and the deity is revered in the 7th century CE Tamil work, Tevaram.
Built by Aditya Chola I in 10th century CE, the temple is a masterpiece of architecture. Later rulers, including the Nayaks, renovated, expanded, and modified the temple.
The Ganapathy shrine is said to have been consecrated by by the great saint Sadasiva Brahmendra (1755).
Many Nagarajas such as Adishesha, Takshaka and Karkotaka are said to have worshipped Shiva in this place, leading to the name Tirunageswaram.
