Puducherry

Puducherry (Pondicherry) is located 160 km south of Chennai, Tamilnadu.

Poduke or Poduca was a Roman trading destination from 3rd century BCE, which is today’s Arikamedu in Puducherry.

The area was part of the Pallava Kingdom in 4th century CE. Later it came under the Cholas, Pandyas and Vijayanagara kings. From 1674 it came under French until 1954, when it was accessed to Indian Union.

Some of the key attractions here are Sri Manakula Vinayagar Mandir (15th century CE), The Sri Aurobindo Ashram, Auroville, Pondicherry beach, The Lighthouse, French War Memorial, Pondicherry War Memorial, Bharathi Park and Aayi mandapam.
