Mangueshi temple, Goa is located 23 km south-east of Panaji.
Manguesh temple, housing a form of Shiva, had its origins in Kushasthali (Cortalim). To escape the invading Portuguese, temple was shifted to the current location in 1560 CE.
Temple was rebuilt and expanded in 17th century CE during Maratha rule.
The Manguesh Shivalinga is ancient – originally consecrated on the banks of river Bhageerathy in the Himalayas, it was brought to Kushasthali in the last millennium.
