Ayalur Akhileshwara (Shiva) temple located 36 km south-west of Palakkad, Kerala is said to have been built during Pallava times, around 1000 years ago. The deity is believed to be here from ancient times.
I had the fortune of growing up in this place for some time.
Current day Ayalur, a picturesque place located on the banks of Ayalur river and at the foot of Ayilamudichi hill, used to be known as Akhileshwarapuram at one point in time.
The Parthasarathy temple is located within the main temple compound.
The Kurumba Bhagavathy temple and Ayyappa temple are located nearby.
The famous Ayalur car festival celebrated in the month of December attracts devotees from near and far.
