Avani is a slice of antiquity located 94 Km east of Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Rameshwara group of temples built in 10th century CE by Nolamba kings are set at the foot of Lava-kusha betta (hill) . Some inscriptions recovered from this area date back to 399 CE!
The Rameshwara group of temples are highly ornate. The Garbhagriha Shikharas are carved and ornamented in Dravidian style. There are many temples in the complex – consecrated by Sri Rama, Lakshmana, Bharatha, Shatrugna, Sugriva, Anjaneya and Vibhishana.
Sri Rama’s sons Lava and Kusha are said to be born here (Lava-Kusha betta). Valmiki gupha, a cave where saint Valmiki is said to have lived, is situated on the way to Sitadevi temple at the hilltop.
