Gol Gumbaz at Vijayapura (Bijapur), Karnataka, is the mausoleum of Adil Shah. It was built between 1626 CE and 1656 CE.
The dome is one of the largest in the world; and was the largest when it was constructed. It is 44 metres (146 ft) in diameter, supported by a series of interlocking arches without any columns.
Each of the four corners of the building has a seven-story-tall minaret, containing stairs that provide access to the whispering gallery at the top.
Gol Gumbaz is massive. It encloses almost 1700 sq.meters of chamber area, said to be the largest in the world under a dome.
