Srikanteshwara Temple of Nanjangudu is located 25 km south of Mysore, Karnataka.
Also known as Nanjundeshwara Temple, it was built by Cholas in 11th century CE, later expanded and renovated by Hoysalas, Vijayanagara kings and Wodeyars of Mysore.
Nanjungud is ancient and finds mention as Sri Garalapuri in the Shiva Purana. It’s also a Parashurama Kshetra. It’s said that the Shivlinga was consecrated by Gautama Rishi.
It’s one of the largest temples of Karnataka.
