Mallikarjuna temple, Basaralu, Karnataka, is located 26 km north of Mandya, and 18 km south of Nagamangala.
Built in 1234 CE during the rule of Hoysala king Vira Narasimha II, the temple is highly ornate. The trikuta temple has Nandi-mandapa, navaranga and sukanasi.
Built in typical hoysala architectural style, it has double eaves, external walls embellished with a large number of sculptures, carvings and images. The six rows of bands are by-and-large intact, with the panels above adorned with the scenes from puranas.
An amazing piece of art!
