Munnar is situated in the western ghats, at around 5,200 ft above mean sea level. It’s located 128 km east of Kochi, Kerala and 157 km south of Coimbatore, Tamilnadu.
Tea fields of Munnar are breathtaking!
The first tea was planted in Parvathi Estate – part of today’s Sevenmallay Estate – in 1880.
In 1900 Kanan Devan Hills Produce Company built the first Hydro-electric Powerhouse at Pullivasal. In the same year the Korangani – Top Station ropeway was also established to transport goods from the plains to the Hills and tea to the plains.
In 1978 Eravikulam area was declared as a National Park.
Munnar has more than 11,300 hectares of tea fields making it one of the leading tea growing areas in India.
