Cannes is located 33 km south west of Nice, France, along the French Riviera.
The city is known for Cannes Film festival (started in 1946), its association with the rich and famous, its luxury hotels, restaurants, and conferences.
Established in 2nd century BCE as a fishing village, construction of a castle in 1035 CE fortified the city which was by then known as Cannes. A walk through the main promenade La Croisette, lined by sandy beaches on one side, and restaurants and boutiques on the other is enchanting.
A walk through Le Suquet, Cannes’ oldest quarter, takes us back to Roman times. La Croix-Des Gardes, a beautiful natural reserve with walking trails, offers lovely walks and spectacular views of the coastline and the city.
