Kumarakom bird sanctuary, also known as Vembanad bird sanctuary, located on the banks of Vembanad lake, Kerala, is a bird-lovers’ paradise.
It’s located 18 km north-west of Kottayam and 32 km north-east of Alappuzha.
Established in 1840s, the sanctuary is spread over 14 acres. Walking tracks help us move around the sanctuary.
A host of local birds such as cuckoo, waterfowl, egret and owl have made it their home; And a host of migratory birds coming from Siberia and Himalayas throng this sanctuary during seasons.
The Kerala Tourism Development Corporation currently manages the sanctuary.
