Navalinga temple, Kuknoor, Karnataka is located 27 Km north-west of Koppal.
Built in 9th century CE during Rashtrakuta times, Navalinga temple is a cluster of 9 temples placed continually – without any particular order. Each of them have a Garbha griha, Shiva linga and a shikhara; and all are inter-connected through a series of common mantapas (hallways).
Shikharas, mantapas, thoranas, pillars are richly carved though much of it is lost due to passage of time and lack of upkeep.
The temple complex has inscriptions too.
It’s unfortunate that the Navalinga temple lacks attention, care and maintenance.
