The famous Kovalam beach is located 22 km south of Thiruvananthapuram, capital city of Kerala.
Though Kovalam beach attracted attention of royal family of Thiruvithamkur and the British, it shot into limelight only by early 1970s.
3 sections constitute the Kovalam beach – Lighthouse Beach
(the southern-most with a Lighthouse on top of the Kurumkal hillock, 35 metres high), Hawah beach, and Samudra beach.
Shallow waters stretch for hundreds of metres in to Arabian Sea.
