Kaiwara - Bhimalingeshwara Temple

Kaiwara – Bhimalingeshwara

Bhimalingeshwara temple, Kaiwara, Karnataka is located 78 km north-east of Bengaluru. The current structure is built in 11th century CE, during Chola times.

Kaiwara was known as Ekachakrapura during Dwapara yuga, and Pandavas lived here in exile for a while. During their stay, Bhima encountered Bakasura and killed him atop the Bhima-Bakasura betta (hill).

Later Bhima consecrated the Siva linga at this Bhimalingeshwara temple.

Kaiwara is ancient. History comes alive here, right from Krutha yuga (Amaranarayana temple) to Thretha yuga (Rama and Lakshmana visited Kaiwara from Lepakshi, on their way to Sri Lanka) to Dwapara yuga (Pandavas) and now!
