Amaranarayana temple, Kaiwara, Karnataka is located 77 km north-east of Bengaluru. The temple is ancient, established by Indra in Krutha yuga; the current deity is said to have been installed during the times of Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana (reign 1108 – 1152 CE).
Sri Rama is said to have visited Kaiwara in Tretha yuga. Kaiwara was known as Ekachakrapura in Dwapara yuga, and Pandavas lived here in exile for a while. Bhima encountered Bakasura here in the Bhima-Bakasura betta (hill) that’s located in front of Amaranarayana temple.
Kaiwara is also home to the 18th century Saint and Poet Nareyanappa (1730 – 1840 CE) also known as Thattaiya. The Swami Nareyana Ashram where he attained Jeevasamadhi is located near to Amaranarayana temple.
