Gokarna, a small temple town with numerous beaches is located 60 km south of Karwar, Karnataka. The town lies between the rivers Gangavali and Agnashini.
The Mahabaleshwara (Siva) temple facing the main Gokarna beach has the ancient deity Atmalinga, said to have been placed by Ravana of Srilanka. Gokarna is mentioned in Shrimad Bhagavata as the home of Gokarna and Dhundhukari.
Gokarna is charming with greenery, blue seas and relatively clean sands. Om beach is an attraction.
Gokarna retains the old world charm.
