Bhoganandishwara temple is located in Nandi village, at the base of Nandi Hills, 6 km south-west of Chikkaballapur and 55 km north of Bangalore.
Being one of the oldest temples of Karnataka established in the year 806 CE (Yes, 1200+ years old!) by Nolambadiraja and Rashtrakuta Govinda III, this temple was modified and expanded later by Gangas, Cholas, Hoysalas, Pallavas and Vijayanagara kings.
The sprawling temple complex is richly ornate with sculptures, carvings, pillars, mantapas, ornamented walls, and deities!
The Kalyana mantap and the stepped temple tank (kalyani) called Sringi teertha (said to be the mythical source of the Pinakini river) are located within the complex.
The whole setting is mesmerising! Takes us back in time.
An amazing work of art!
