BR Hills

Biligirirangana Hills, commonly referred as BR Hills, is located 32 km south Kollegal, Karnataka. Spread over 540 square kms and situated at the confluence of the Western Ghats and the Eastern Ghats, the BRT wildlife sanctuary is home to eco-systems that are unique.

The jungles thrive with animals and birds that include elephants, gaur (Bison), tigers, sambhars, spotted deer, antelopes, leopards, wild dogs, and sloth bears.

With its earliest reference in Bhrahmanda Purana, known as Champakaranya in puranic times and Gajaranya (the forest of elephants) during the rule of Ganga dynasty (350-1000 CE), BR Hills is home to Shri Ranganathaswamy temple; the deity here is said to have been consecrated by Sage Vashishta.

Current structure of the temple was built by Vishnuvardhana in Dravidian architectural style.

BR Hills may be approached either from Yelandur or Chamarajanagar. Kyathadevara Gudi or K Gudi is located 18 km south of BR Hills, where wild life safari is conducted.
