Bindiganavile

Bindiganavile, located 17 km north-west of Nagamangala, Karnataka, houses Vainatheya (Garuda) and Chennakeshava temple, that are centuries old.

The village finds mention in the Puranas as Mayurapuri; Ramanujacharya (1017-1137 CE) is said to have stayed here for a few days.

The temple that’s over 1000 years old is one of the very few temples dedicated to Garuda.The wooden Garuda deity got consecrated here on its way from Kanchipuram to Belur around 800 years ago. The current sandalwood deity was made in the early 19th century CE.

The temple architecture is typical Dravidian with a Rajagopura in the front.
