Shivagange – located 52 Km north-west of Bangalore, and 8 km south of Dabaspete – is a rocky hill with many thirthas (springs), temples and loads of history.
Sri Gavi Gangadhareshwara cave temple located mid-way uphill is known for the miracle where ghee turns in to butter when applied on the linga. This happens every-day during abhisheka; And we were fortunate to witness it with awe!
The hill was fortified during the 16th century CE by Shivappa Nayaka which is in ruins.
The climb to the peak is a tough one; Entire trail is well marked. It becomes steeper and narrower as we ascend.
The statue of Nandi and Gangadhareswara temple are the attractions at the top, apart from breath-taking views all-around!
