Borra Caves are located 90 kms north of Visakhapatnam and 36 km south-east of Arakku valley in the Ananthagiri hills, Andhra Pradesh, at an elevation of 3,100 feet from MSL.
The caves are the largest and deepest in the country, distinctly exhibiting a variety of stalactites and stalagmites in varying forms and sizes, formed through waters flowing through Gosthani river for millions of years.
Excavations carried out in the caves by the Archaeologists have unearthed stone tools dating back 30,000 to 50,000 years, confirming human habitation for a long period in this area.
Caves are massive – at the entry it measures 330 feet horizontally and 246 feet vertically! And it’s spread over more than a square km. One could walk through for a distance of 660 feet inside, reaching depths of 80 feet. Walk way is well marked and lit.
