Dhanushkoti point (Arichal munai) located 24 km south-east of Rameshwaram is the farthest one could go on Pamban island following the Ramasethu towards Srilanka. It’s 29 km north-west of Talaimannar in Srilanka.
The town was destroyed in a cyclone in 1964. The cyclone, crossing Vavunia in Sri Lanka on 22 December, made landfall at Dhanushkodi on the night of 22-23 December with wind-speeds exceeding 280 km per hour and tidal waves as tall as 7 metres!
Now one could drive up to Arichal munai Ashoka pillar – with seas surrounding all 3 sides!
