Veera Narayana temple, Belavadi, Karnataka, located 44 km north of Hassan, is one of the finest expressions of Hoysala art and architecture!
This highly ornate Trikuta (three shrines) temple was built in two stages – First as an Ekakuta in 1117 CE, and expanded later in to a Trikuta in 1200 CE.
The awe-inspiring feature of Belavadi temple is its immensely large Mahamantapas with 108 lathe-turned pillars, and 59 Ankanas (bays) with exquisitely decorated ceiling panels.
This is a unique Hoysala Trikuta temple where the 3 kutas (Garbha grihas) are widely spread across – with their own Navaranga and Sukhanasi (vestibule).
The 270 feet-long temple is decorated with carvings all-around. Elaborate lintel decorations and stunning Navaranga ceiling panels adds to the awe-factor!
What a marvellous creation!
