Viralimalai Shanmughanathar Temple and peacock sanctuary is located 34 km south-west of Tiruchirapalli, Tamilnadu.
The temple was built by Cholas in 9th century CE. Arunagirinathar (15th century CE) has sung in praise of Shanmughanathar in Tiruppugazh.
There are six species of peacocks in the sanctuary spread over the temple and the hill area around.
