Pratapgad Fort – located 21 kilometres west of Mahabaleshwar, Maharashtra – was built in 1656 CE by Chatrapati Shivaji (1630-1680).
The fort stands 1,080 metres above sea level between the villages of Par and Kinesvar. The fort was constructed under the guidance of Moropant Pingale (Minister of Shivaji) and Hiroji Indulkar (Architect).
The rare feature of the fort is its double-line fortification that divides it into two parts – upper fort and lower fort – and the Goddess Bhavani temple.
The fort and adjacent areas are quite picturesque!
