The Paradesi Synagogue, located in Mattancherry, Kerala is the oldest active synagogue in India, built in 1568 CE.
It was built adjacent to Mattancherry Krishna temple, on the land given to the Malabari Yehuden community by Rama Varma, the king of Kochi.
The Synagogue is operational; Has Belgian glass chandeliers, brass-railed pulpit, a 10th century copper plate containing inscriptions, and unique floor consisting of hand-painted porcelain tiles.
Jew Town, consisting of a few streets around the Synagogue are filled with shops selling artifacts and antique items.
