The Ganesha Ratha, Mamallapuram, Tamil nadu, is located 1 km west of Shore Temple.
This striking monolithic rock-cut structure of 7th century CE is carved from a single ridge of granite during the reign of Pallava King Narasimhavarman I (Mamalla).
The architecture is significant as its design is believed to have served as the early prototype for the towering Gopurams of South Indian temples that followed.
Mamallapuram is now known as Mahabalipuram.
