Shoolagiri - Varadaraja Perumal Temple

Shoolagiri

Varadaraja Perumal Temple, Shoolagiri is located 24 km south-east of Hosur, Tamilnadu.

This ancient temple is said to have been consecrated by Arjuna in Dwapara Yuga (5000+ years ago). The current Garbhagriha is built by Cholas in 10th century CE. The Maha Mantapa and other mantapas are built by Sri Krishnadeva Raya of Vijayanagara (early 16th century CE).

The carving of men on horses that adorns the pillars are immaculate.

The Shoolagiri hill resembles a trident (Shoolam in Tamil) – hence the name ‘Shoolagiri’.
