Humcha, Karnataka, is located 58 km west of Shimoga. Humcha is home to the ancient temple of Goddess Padmavati, and Humbaj Mata, an important institution of the Jain community.
Padmavati temple was established in 8th Century CE by Jinadatta Raya, founder of Santara dynasty. Jinadatta Raya was a Jain prince from Mathura in North India.
Humcha continues to be an important Jain pilgrim centre from 8th Century CE. The main attraction of this Basadi is the Manastambha, an impressive monolithic pillar.
