Ikkeri, situated 6 km south of Sagar, Karnataka, houses the Aghoreswara (Siva) temple built around 16th century CE.
Ikkeri was the capital of Keladi rulers. The temple is built in a mixed Hoysala-Dravidian-Vijayanagara style resulting in a style of its own!
The temple has a lofty, tall roof unlike the temples of those times.
The structure and roof are replete with rich carvings, intricate sculptures, and ornate pillars, demonstrating highest order of craftsmanship!
Nandi in front is hard to miss – crafted to perfection, it has immaculate glazed finishing.
Italian traveller Peitro Della Valle visited Ikkeri in 1623 CE and has written about his experiences here.
Ikkeri is a beauty – One of its kind.
