Mallikarjuna temple at Hirenallur is located 58 km north-east of Chikkamagaluru, and 73 km south-east of Shimoga, Karnataka.
The temple is said to have been built in 8th century CE by Gangas, and later modified and renovated by Hoysala king Ballala – II in 1208 CE.
The trikuta structure along with typical Hoysala features such as Sukhanasi, Navaranga and Mukhamantapa, houses Shivalinga, Keshava, and Suryadeva deities.
Replete with intricate carvings, sculptures and amazing stone works, the temple is a stunner!
