Bandipur National Park, Karnataka is located 78 km south of Mysore.
Established in 1974, along with adjacent Nagarhole National Park, Wayanad National Park and Mudumalai National park, it’s one of the premier Tiger Reserves in the country.
The Nilgiri Biosphere Reserve consisting of these 4 wildlife sanctuaries total to 2,183 square kms making it one of the largest protected areas of India.
The park spans an area of 874 square kms protecting a wide range of flora and fauna including Elephants, Tigers, Gaurs (bison), Sloth bears, Mugger Crocodiles, Pythons, Antelopes, Jackals and Dholes (wild dogs).
The highest point in the park is called Himavad Gopalaswamy Betta, with a temple built in 1315 CE at the top of the hill.
