Banashankari temple is located 5 km south-east of Badami, and 65 km north of Gadag, Karnataka.
Also known as Vanashankari and Shakambhari (Vegetable goddess), the temple is built in the year 603 CE by Chalukya kings, though historians conclude the temple was in existence even before that.
The temple is enclosed by high walls on all sides. The temple tank called Haridra thirtha, and multi-floor Deepasthambha (lamp tower) are the attractions here.
A quaint place!
