Venugopala Swamy temple, Thondanur, Karnataka, located 36 km west of Mandya and 38 km north of Mysore, near the Nambinarayana Swamy Temple, is more than 1000 years old!
Constructed in Chola architectural style, the temple has Sukanaasi, Navaranga, Mukhamantapa, Garbha Griha and expansive praakaras with multiple mandapas.
There are Tamil and Kannada inscriptions in the Mukhamantapa.
This great temple is said to have been established more than 5,500 years ago by Yudhishtira (Pandavas).
Historians insist the current structure is older than the Nambinarayana Swamy Temple, which was built in early 12th century CE.
It’s calm and serene! And retains the old-world-charm!
