Thondanur (Thonnur) lake is located 39 km north of Mysore and 136 km south-west of Bengaluru, Karnataka.
Spread over 2200 acres, this man-made lake was built across Yadavanadi river during the time of Saint Ramanuja (1017 – 1137) – around 1000 years ago!
It was known as ‘Thirumalasagara’ at that time. This lake is said to have never dried up in history.
There are magnificent ancient temples nearby – such as Nambinarayana temple, Venugopala temple, Narasimha temple.
