Kumaraswamy temple, Karnataka is located 11 km south of Sandur, in the Swamimalai forest range of Krauncha Giri (hill).
Parvati temple was built by Badami Chalukyas in 7th century CE, and the Kumaraswamy temple was built by Rashtrakuta kings around 8th to 10th century CE.
The Parvathi temple is unique with a long Antarala leading to Garbhagriha, with no Mantapa. Heavily decorated Antarala (inside and outside) and Shikhara (tower) are intact.
Kraunchagiri is referred to in ancient texts such as Skanda Purana and Mahabharatha. Krauncha Giri is also associated with Sage Agastya and Parasurama.
