Kuzhanthai Velappar (Muruga) Temple, is nestled in Poombarai, 20 km north-west of Kodaikanal, Tamilnadu.
Set amidst picturesque hills and forests, the temple is ancient. The current structure was established by early Chera rulers around 5th century CE.
The idol of Muruga created in ‘Navapashanam’ (a mix of 9 ingredients) was consecrated by sage Bogar, one of the 18 great Siddhas. Sage Bogar is said to have created and consecrated the Palani Muruga idol too.
Sage Arunagirinathar visited the temple and composed a Thirupugazh in the name of Poombarai Velan in 15th century CE
