Namakkal - Narasimha Swamy Temple

Namakkal – Narasimha

Narasimha swamy Temple, Namakkal (Namagiri), is located 57 km south of Salem, Tamil Nadu.

Built in 8th century CE by Pandya kings, the rock-cut temple has highly ornamented Mukha mantapa and pillared halls added later.

The Namagiri Thayar (Mahalakshmi) temple within the premises is famous – and happens to be the family Goddess of Mathematician Srinivasa Ramanujan – to whom he credited his acumen and genius.

Saint Purandaradasa composed his song ‘Simha Rupanada Sri Hari Namagirishane here. The Anjaneya temple is nearby.

An amazing Temple, at the foot of Namagiri rock / hill.
