Sri Dalada Maligawa, or the Buddhist Temple of the Sacred Tooth Relic, is located in the Royal Palace Complex in Kandy, Srilanka.
A renowned place of worship where the left tooth of Gautama Buddha is enshrined is a UNESCO world heritage site.
The Sacred tooth relic was carried from Kalinga, India, to Sri Lanka by Princess Hemamali and Prince Dantha in early 4th century CE. It became a symbol of Sri Lankan kings.
The current 2-floor structure where the tooth relic is kept was built in early 18th century by King Sri Narendrasinghe. The spectacular Paththirippuwa or the Octagonal Pavilion was built during the times of King Sri Wickrama Rajasinghe (1798 – 1815).
Attractions within the precinct include Audience hall, Sri Natha Devalaya, Sri Vishnu Devalaya, Museum and Royal palace.
