Cabo De Rama Fort – located 61 km south of Panaji, Goa – takes its name from Rama who is said to have visited the place.
The fort here existed centuries before the Portuguese wrested it from the local Ruler, King of Sonda, in the year 1763 CE.
The citadel now lies in part-ruins, yet magnificent, providing panoramic views of the ocean with cliffs dropping steeply.
Its only habitable building is a government observation post managed by the National Institute of Oceanography, though until 1955 it housed a prison. The church of Santo Antonio is in good condition, still being in use.
Quite a picturesque place!
