Banasura Sagar Dam is located 20 km north-west of Kalpetta in Wayanad, Kerala.
Fed from the Karamanathodu, a tributary of the Kabini River, the dam is one of the largest earthern dams in India, located at the foot of Banasura Hills.
The dam holds large expanse of water with a few islands amid the picturesque beauty of green hills all around.
The dam that is part of the larger Kakkayam Hydro electric project also serves irrigation and drinking water purposes.
