Badrinath

Badrinath

Badrinath temple is located 300 km north-east of Rishikesh, Uttarakhand.

Badrinath is located at an elevation of 3,100 meters in the Garhwal Himalayas, on the banks of the Alaknanda river, between Nar and Narayan Mountain ranges.

The current temple is established by Sri Adi Shankara in the 8th century CE, though ancient texts such as Srimad Bhagavatha, Maha Bharatha, Vishnu Purana and Skanda Purana have references to Badrinath.

River Alakananda (a tributary of Ganga) is fierce here.

The Tapt Kund, a group of hot springs near the temple, has waters at year-round temperature of 55°C. The temple remains open for six months in a year from May – Oct.

A serene place!
