Nambinarayana Swamy temple, Thondanur, Karnataka, is located 36 km west of Mandya and 38 km north of Mysore, on the southern slope of a small hillock called Yadugiri.
Built in early 12th century CE by Hoysala king Vishnuvardhana (Bittideva), this 900+ year old marvel follows Chola architecture. 50 pillars adorn the Maharanga mandapa. The navaranga is richly carved and pillars embellished with motifs of flowers and beads.
The deity that’s 182 cm tall is said to be more than 5,500 years old, dating back to Dwapara Yuga.
