Gangtok is the capital of Sikkim. Located in the eastern Himalayan range, at an elevation of 5,500 feet, Gangtok used to be a major stopover on the trade route between Lhasa in Tibet and Kolkata.
The ridge, a stretch of road above the city, offers magnificent views all around. The Ridge Park that runs along the serene road is full of flowering Himalayan plants and shrubs. Orchids are common here.
Mt Kanchenjunga (28,208 ft), world’s third-tallest is visible from the city.
