Stratford, North Island, New Zealand, is located beneath the eastern slopes of Mount Taranaki. The Māori name for Stratford is Whakaahurangi.
Named after the birthplace of Shakespeare, Stratford Glockenspiel at the city centre chimes and performs a short re-enactment of Shakespeare’s Romeo and Juliet 4 times every day at 10am, 1pm, 3pm and 7pm. We saw the 7 pm act – during the short-show, figurines appear at many different hidden windows of the Glockenspiel.
Stratford marks one end of Forgotten World Highway (State Highway 43). Apart from numerous trekking trails, Taranaki Pioneer village is an attraction here.
