Cape Otway Lighthouse

Cape Otway

Cape Otway, situated 30 km south-west of Apollo bay, Victoria, Australia, at a 10 km detour from the Great Ocean road, houses Cape Otway Lighthouse which is the oldest surviving lighthouse on mainland Australia.

Cape Otway is part of the Great Otway National Park with rain-forests and streams extending to the coast.

The light house established in the year 1848 is perched on towering cliffs at 90 metres above sea level.

The lighthouse keeper’s quarters, workshop, the telegraph office (1859), the post office (1880) and a radar bunker installed in 1942 are open to public viewing. At a short walking distance through the bush is the Aboriginal talking hut.

At Cape Otway, we get to see slices of Australia’s maritime history; And some of Victoria’s most beautiful rain-forest and coastal scenery!
